Scottish-Nigerian, Moyo Akandé is a Scottish actor and producer based in London.
Moyo began her professional training at the Dance School of Scotland | Musical Theatre Course in Glasgow, Scotland.
She was awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Fellowship Award for Musical Theatre. The highly sought after award consisted of an all expenses paid trip to Sydney, Australia to study for 1 month at The MacDonald College of Performing Arts.
She decided to further her training in London at the prestigious Arts Educational. Thousands of applicants apply every year but she was one of the lucky individuals who was accepted onto the Musical Theatre course with a full DADA scholarship (Dance and Drama Award) graduating with a BA Honors degree.
Since graduating Moyo has been fortunate to work consistently in film, television and in theatre's across Britain with Olivier and Tony award winning directors and with companies including; The Donmar Warehouse, The Shakespeare's Globe, The Sheffield Crucible, The West Yorkshire Playhouse, The Birmingham Rep, The Royal Festival Hall, The National Theatre of Scotland and The Dundee Rep.
Moyo recently starred as Ross in the recent sell-out hit production of Macbeth at The Donmar Warehouse alongside David Tennant. The production was widely acclaimed and will transfer to the West End in Autumn 2024.
She has an extensive list of television credits in particular for the BBC including, Crime, Professor T, Inside No.9. The Wedding, Annika, Back, Guilt, The Cry, Still Game, Vera, Porridge, Taggart and Lip Service.
Moyo's film and television career has taken off. She made her feature film debut in The Hurricane Heist (2018). The Fast & the Furious director Rob Cohen was behind the camera for this action thriller.
Most recently she appeared in the Hollywood feature film Tetris (2023) for Apple TV+ starring Taron Egerton, as well as an episode of the BAFTA Winning series Inside No.9 (2023) for BBC2, starring Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith.
She recently made her mark as the new semi-regular Pathologist in Crime - Season 2 (2023) for ITVX starring Dougray Scott.
Additionally, she shot an episode for Professor T - Season 3 (2023) starring Ben Miller on ITV in Belgium, further showcasing her international appeal.
Her BAFTA Scotland nominated short film, 1745, in which Moyo stars in the leading role and script developed alongside her sister, Morayo Akande - the writer, was nominated for the Best British Short Film award at The British Independent Film Awards 2017.
Moyo is also a film producer. Her passion for film and diverse storytelling led her to co-found an independent production company, Lucid Dreamers Productions, with her sister; where they continue to produce international content from a fresh perspective.
She produced and starred in the lead role, Vivian, in her short film A.V. Van (2023). A.V. Van has been officially selected to screen in competition at the BAFTA qualifying, Edinburgh International Film Festival 2023. The short was fully supported and funded by Screen Scotland, BFI.Network and Short Circuit.
She is currently gearing up to produce her debut feature film Konbini Zombies a comedy horror, in Tokyo, Japan.
